Some Like It Hott - Official MFNW Party

With the end of summer now in view, we find ourselves fast approaching the fall which can mean one thing: MusicFest Northwest is coming. MFNW is one of our favorite festivals,  and it's right in our backyard.  For one week, venues across the city are taken over by an onslaught of incredible performances.  Each year, we've loved going to the shows, and now we're honored to now be a part of it.

We're excited to announce the third installment of our Hott Summer Nights event which will also be an official MFNW Party in collaboration with MailChimp.  On September 5th, we'll be hosting a whole evening of great music + an open house of brand new office.  We've curated an evening with the likes of the immensely talented John Vanderslice, Shy Girls, Surfer Blood and Love Language.

With a whole night of music planned, all you need to do is bring your awesome self.  Come and share this special evening of music, free booze and celebration with us.

Please fill out the form below to RSVP. The first 50 people that RSVP to this will get a free copy of our "Side By Side" vinyl.

3 Festivals You Should Know About

If the NW has proved anything, it has been the fact that we love music...alot.  With each year, we start to see more and more ways that we express our appreciation of the musical craft.  With this said, here are three festivals of note that we've loved over years.  Rolling into the summer, they are at their best yet and you should join us this time around.  Without further ado, here they are... PICKATHON - AUGUST 2-4

If you want to get away from the city and the bar venues for a little while, this is your festival.  Started as a small festival on the outskirts of town showcasing a few bands over one night, Pickathon has boomed into something massive and one of the most immersive festivals in just over a few years.  Nestled in Pendarvis Farms, this festival's goal is "juxtaposting alternate realities" and it does exactly that.

Beautifully set up stages and camp sites are the only things set up, with an emphasis on sustainability.  Pickathon is bringing in their best lineup yet with the likes of Feist, Andrew Bird, Kurt Vile, Divine Fits, and Felice Brothers to name a few.  So bring your sleeping bag and cowboy boots - barn stomping is highly recommended.

Further north in our neighboring state of Washington, there is another incredible festival happening this summer.  In just it's 6th year, The Doe Bay Festival is bringing in some of the most innovative bands to hit the stage.

Set in the mythical-sounding Orcas Island, the festival takes place on the picturesque Doe Bay Resort. The experience has been described as "musicians on vacation" and camping is encouraged.

We, here at Marmoset couldn't be happier being a sponsor for Doe Bay Festival, especially with the incredible lineup this year including Built To Spill, Bobby Bare Jr., Radiation City, and Shabazz Palaces.

In the recent years, MusicFestNW (MFNW) has taken over the month of September.  By far, being the biggest music festival in Portland, most of the city becomes involved in this celebration of music. From the intimate venues like Doug Fir, to the grandiose spectacle of Pioneer Court House Square, bands are everywhere.

With the lineup just unveiled, this is set to be the most exciting year yet. In just scratching the surface, bands such as Animal Collective, Neko Case, The Head & The Heart, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Superchunk, Helio Sequence, and Dan Deacon are coming to town.

And now we come to the end of the summer festival season. As the air begins to cool let us take just a moment to savor a few of the golden live music moments that shook the city this past week: At Marmoset's second Hott Summer Nights party at Rontom's on Sunday, we featured 14 bands and 4 DJ's throughout the day and long into the night. Some of the many highlights were Houndstooth1939 Ensemble, Sean Flinn and the Royal WeKelli SchaeferLost Lander and Pure Bathing Culture. The music was awesome, the beer was cheap and plentiful, and the bands were happy.

Special thanks from Marmoset to Rontom's for hosting, and to co-sponsor Eleven PDX Magazine, and to our dear friends at Beacon Sound, and Factory North who helped out too. Fresh eats and bevvies came from Upright Brewing, Burnside Brewing, Ninkasi Brewing, Sizzle Pie, Stumptown Coffee, Violetta Food Truck, and The Ice Cream Man. And many thanks to our DJ's Ryan Blornstad, JT Griffith, Boy Eats Drum Machine, and DJ Versus Nature. (Gasp)
