Marmoset Presents: How to Compose Music for Branded Picture (And Actually Land the Job)

We’re excited to announce our upcoming fall artist education event, focusing on how to compose music for branded picture. Join us on September 8 at Marmoset HQ as we collaborate with a small group of seasoned panelists -- a composer, a producer and a creative director -- to share insight, advice and outlooks on what makes up a successful composer. At the end of the evening, the speakers will open the floor for a Q&A.

Our panelists have worked with some of the biggest brands in the business and will share their expertise in shaping compositions that integrate fluidly and effectively with branded stories -- moving through topics like how to interpret creative briefs, what to focus on when sitting down to write, and other important elements to think about when working on your composition. The night will touch on case studies of actual spots, as well as essential techniques and skills for creating  sync-able tracks.

Location: Marmoset Music (2105 SE 7th Avenue, Portland, OR 97214)

Date: Thurs. September 8th, 2016

Time: 6:30 – 9:00 PM

A little more about the panelists...

Graham Barton // With spots for companies such as Tillamook, Audi, Facebook, Adidas and Coca-Cola under his belt, Graham has perfected the art of crafting original work for brands. Starting his career from his home studio in Minneapolis, we are stoked that he has made a new home in Portland and at Marmoset as our very own in-house composer.

Dan Mills // As a creative director at the video hosting platform Wistia, as well as a commercial composer and independent artist, Dan has a bird’s-eye view of music production. Acting both as a composer and a client at times, Dan’s well-rounded perspective on the interaction of music and picture makes him an incredible resource for artists looking to make music for visual stories.

Katy Davidson // Leading projects for brands like Apple, Old Spice and Google, Katy’s creative portfolio is as impressive as her own musical career -- touring with artists like YACHT and Gossip, as well as performing and recording under her monikers Dear Nora, Key Losers, and Lloyd & Michael. As Original Music Producer at Marmoset, Katy is an encyclopedia of musical wisdom.

Ryan Wines // Marmoset’s Co-founder, Producer and Music Supervisor will moderate this discussion.

Due to the size of our space, a limited number of seats are available for this event. If you’d like to join us, please be sure to RSVP. We hope to see you there!
