New Artist Spotlight: Goldmund

Beautiful, timeless, peaceful -- these are the words that come to mind when describing the post-classical piano melodies of composer Goldmund, an artist we are stoked to welcome to the Marmoset roster. A multi-instrumentalist and graduate of the esteemed Berklee College of music, Goldmund’s mastery shines through in his minimalist compositions, making the composer “one of American ambient and neo-classical music’s central figures,” according to Exclaim! magazine. Comprised of solo piano with occasional unusual, organic tones created by attaching tape, tacks, weights and sandpaper to the strings, Goldmund’s simple and elegant tracks pair harmoniously both with film and TV and have graced the soundtracks of award-winning films and advertisements.

Channeling the atmospheric style of late ‘70s/early ‘80s Harold Budd and Brian Eno, Goldmund’s compositions result in fragile, evocative melodies that are the perfect soundscape for meditation. “Goldmund tracks totally zen me out, and are so familiar to me that I can easily drift into sleep with them in the background,” says Ryan Rebo, Marmoset Web Developer. “I'm super happy that we got some of his work, as I guess I'd consider myself a turbo-fan.” With occasional loose notes and permeating sounds of everyday life, Goldmund crafts a sound that is imperfectly beautiful and uniquely him.
