Shared Work: No Wrong Way to be a Woman

“Leave it to a deodorant company to get what so many elected officials in this country can’t quite wrap their heads around – that there is no one way to express gender.” -- Dan Tercer of LGBTQ Nation

Tercer is praising one of our Original Music Team’s recent collaborations with Wieden+Kennedy on Secret Deodorant’s #StressTest campaign. The ad, “Ladies’ Room,” celebrates trans-womanhood by bringing awareness to the stress and anxieties tied to interactions that cisgender females often take for granted, and we couldn’t be more proud to be involved in supporting the message.

Featuring a customization of “Cleary” by Marmoset artist Drexler, the spot shows Dana (Karis Wilde), a trans woman, mustering up the confidence to venture out into a crowded women’s restroom. While Dana doesn’t speak in the video, her body language and expression tells the story of anxiety, internal conflict and determination, with the help of music. “Cleary” accompanies Dana on her emotional journey – starting out apprehensive, adding a glimpse of encouragement, and ending with confidence and resolve. In thirty seconds, the ad communicates what trans women have been trying to communicate for years – “there’s no wrong way to be a woman.” Watch below:
