Instagram Takeover: "The Forgotten Dream"

‘Appreciating All Forms of Art’

We find value in celebrating different forms of art and those who create it. Similar to music, we feel that photography deserves to be highlighted and appreciated. In an effort to bring attention to artists, we’ve decided to invite award-winning photojournalist, Michelle Siu, to share her work with us, and more importantly, you. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a story on America conceptualized and created by photojournalist, and told through photography on our Instagram account. We met Michelle in Toronto and she’s a prolific photographer for publications like National Geographic, Time Magazine, The Atlantic, New York Times, Mother Jones, Discovery Channel, Wall Street Journal among others. We'll be interviewing Michelle next Monday

Why this story? It’s a little different from other takeovers in that there’s a strong social narrative throughout the takeover. However, we feel this story perfectly balances story and captivating imagery -- something different and stands out from other Instagram collaborations. There are equal parts portraits and cinematic landscapes that altogether create an immersive story.

The story…

‘The Forgotten Dream’ is a photo series about the twin border city of Niagara Falls, New York.

This American city withers with a median income of 40% below the national average, while it’s Canadian counter’s tourism industry thrives attracting twice as many visitors. We invite you keep checking in to our instagram to see how the story evolves throughout the next few weeks.
