Next week on Thursday, the 19th, Seattle's energetic folk-rockers, Ravenna Woods are kicking off the night for the most wonderful A Lull and experimental act Deleted Scenes at Mississippi Studios. Ravenna Woods has earned themselves a reputation for high energy, almost frantic live shows, where even the drummer doesn't have a chance to sit down. Seriously. Frontman Chris Cunningham has found a poetic way to fuse his politically and environmentally minded lyrics into a package that is as danceable as it is insightful. Spin speaks kindly of the band saying, "Ravenna Woods provides a crucial reminder to Seattle's current scene: Just because it's folky and acoustic doesn't mean it must be pastoral and warm. The three-man band plays haunting urban folk, full of eerie vocal harmonies, spiraling fingerpicked guitar, minimalist percussion, and the occasional toy piano."
At Marmoset HQ, we really dig this band and like to pump it up during our fierce foosball battles. So if you're in or near Portland next Thursday night, go see them live and in person at Mississippi Studios. We'll be there.
